5 Lies About Entrepreneurship

This April 1st, I decided to share 5 lies that tell you about entrepreneurship. Since I created my YouTube channel , my intention is to encourage them to become an entrepreneur, giving some tools and sharing useful tips. But this has to be done with a lot of responsibility, because encouraging someone to enter a business with false promises or illusions is dangerous. And there’s a lot of it on the internet!

I hope the tips are useful and help you make decisions with more awareness of the gains and possible losses of having your own business. Let’s get to the lies about entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurs make their own hours and work whenever they want.

Do you think I wanted to be here writing this article on a Saturday afternoon? Or editing video on Sunday to post on Youtube, a channel that doesn’t even make me money?

Entrepreneurship necessarily involves working a lot, and often on things that won’t bring you immediate results. Like producing content, networking or offering things for free to promote your product.

And the cruel truth is that if you just work 40 hours a week, it will take a long time for you to reap the rewards. Same! You need to have a lot of cash to allow yourself the luxury of putting off things that if you start today will bring you revenue much faster .

Who undertakes really has more freedom and autonomy. You don’t have to clock in and you don’t even have to be in the same city all the time. But you need to be willing to work hard.

Who undertakes gets rich quick

This is a classic phrase from internet gurus who sell entrepreneurship courses. Do you know how they get rich? Selling course for Muggles! If it were easy, don’t you think everyone would be doing it?

I often see a course advertisement in which the instructor shows his cell phone screen with several sales notifications made, entering something like R$100 every 5 minutes. Have you seen this advertisement?

I work with course sales, both as a producer and as an affiliate, and I guarantee: only a producer earns sums of money like that, and only on the day a course is launched. The guys lead you to believe that if you are an affiliate and sell their course, you will earn a lot of money every day. But they just want to use you to sell their courses! playingreal

Quite frankly, I really think it’s more possible to get rich doing business than working as an employee. But that doesn’t mean it’s quick and easy. You will have to dedicate yourself a lot, and for a long time, until the business really goes ahead.

anyone can undertake

Now I will be controversial. I’m going to throw a hard reality here for you, in the greatest “sincericide” style. Entrepreneurship is for the strong, especially if you don’t live in a reality of many privileges. I explain.

When you’re young and living with a family, a family with a good income, you probably don’t need to pay college and household bills. That’s why dedicating 4, 5 hours a day to an online business is easy. You don’t need an immediate return, and sometimes you don’t even need to give up on weekend breaks. After all, you have time, and that’s a privilege.

Now if you already work 40 or 44 hours a week, take care of the house, take care of children, deal with debts… Then, you will really need a lot of determination, a lot of sacrifice and a lot of mental stability. Giving up all your free time and dealing with the pressure of entrepreneurship when it’s just one of the many pressures in your life isn’t easy.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, okay? But I guarantee it’s hard, and you’re going to have to be very strong. If you don’t have mental stability, you can’t take it. That’s why I support and encourage you to support small entrepreneurs, mothers with their own businesses and people who are there facing this reality.

Entrepreneurship requires a lot of money

Then after this speech about privileges, I will say almost the opposite. Haha ha! But not quite. If you don’t have a lot of money to undertake, that’s fine as long as you have time. Starting an internet business is much cheaper than starting a physical business.

Sometimes it’s just the cost of a domain for you to have your own website, a server and a designer to make your logo, for example. In addition to the electricity, internet and maintenance costs of the company, which if you are MEI (individual micro-entrepreneur) is around 50 reais per month.

The important thing is that you have time to study about your business and about marketing, to produce content that will promote you and to make your company grow, even with a small structure. Many entrepreneurs and I work from home anyway, and our monthly cost to maintain the company is not very high.

To be an entrepreneur, you must have an innovative idea

This lie is terrible, because you hear something like that and immediately think that entrepreneurship is not for you, as you are not that innovative and creative. But I ask you: how many companies doing the same thing don’t exist? I’m not telling you to copy what you already have, but don’t let insecurity stop you from getting started.

Sometimes you start doing something a little banal and it evolves and takes new paths. I, for example, started selling material for a magazine that I liked to read. I literally saw in my office who the editor of the magazine was, thought of a cool agenda that had to do with the publication, and called or sent an e-mail offering the story and showing my portfolio. Nothing innovative about it; every freelance reporter did the same thing.

Over time I was adapting my work and my services, studying and understanding the market better, and my company has changed a lot. So don’t wait for the innovative idea that will change the world to get started.

Well, that’s it. When I started this text I thought it would be a heavier article, which would break the myths that entrepreneurship is easy. But in the end it was positive, right?

Entrepreneurship requires a lot of dedication and passion, it’s a fact, but I really believe it’s the best path to professional satisfaction and future enrichment.

I hope that with the articles here and the videos on Youtube I can help you on this journey. Feel free to comment here questions or suggestions for the next content. And look, suspect who promises easy and guaranteed results on the internet, combined?
